New York fashion week, first stop of fashion month, has become the hot city for designers to present their last or first collection e.g Longchamp. This SS19 NYFW, did not deceive; every show was unexpected and the whole week felt like a weird choreographed ballet going from soft romantic, to a weird (but not unpleasing) interlude before ending on an avant-garde finale. From critique, to applause here's everything that you need to know, about what went down during NYFW .

THE BIG NAMES AND THEIR (SOMETIMES NOT SO GREAT) SHOWS

Aaah, the big fashion houses of New York fashion week, some delivered, some did okay and others were just like "ugh not again".

The Brands that delivered

Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, , Zimmermann, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera

I'm nowhere biased, some of these brands did recycle some designs, but unlike their peers they revamped them, giving them a little bit of je ne sais quoi that gave me some type of "I want this in my wardrobe asap" moment. Oscar de la Renta, was the perfect interpretation of "less is more", the clothes were flowy and light, the cut was simple yet intricate, the flower patterns were not overdone; the fabrics looked very luxurious; I loved the collection, it was feminine without overdoing it.

Proenza Schouler, brought back denim in a very subtle way; the fabric which is often associated with being heavy and uniform like, looked very light & reinvented. From dresses to trench coats the washed-out, bleached blue fabric felt new and very soft avant-garde.

Those who did okay

Christian Siriano, Philip Lim, Rodarte, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Mansur Gavriel, Tom Ford, Escada, Anna Sui

Where do I start with these brands... to make a long story short, it's not bad but it could've been better. I understand the struggle for big fashion houses like Tom Ford, Calvin Klein & Hugo Boss to stay relevant, and not suffocate under the pressure, that today fast fashion world has created for designers. Yes, but this is New York fashion week, you can't just do patchwork fabrics, weird animal prints, leather corset and fringe skirts that look like dusters; study the trends and what people truly want now, which is to be comfortable while being chic.

The "ugh not again"

Coach, Longchamp, Marc Jacobs, Micheal Kors, Ralph Lauren, The Row

Did all these brands agreed on producing the same collection but with some "twist" to it ?

Coach, Longchamp and Ralph Lauren, felt like the same show and it was quite boring; nothing new, old western cowboy/girl trend, dull colors and a LOT of fringes ! Like "ugh not this trend again", but if you choose to bring it back please stop making it look like what Pocahontas would've worn in 2018; we understand the whole horse vibe thing, but it needs to stop.

As for Marc Jacobs (a 2008's Lady Gaga featuring Pierrot de la Lune wardrobe) and Micheal Kors (a rainbow on LSD), I think the pictures speak for themselves.

And you, what are your thoughts on this SS19 NYFW ? Loved, or hated it ? Let me know in the comments !
